Is Black Friday a Good Time to Buy a Floor Cleaner? How to Spot a Genuine Deal
Key Takeaways
- Black Friday can be a good time to buy a floor cleaner, but only if the discount is measured against a genuine recent price.
- Ignore countdown clocks and “up to” claims. Check the price on the model you actually want.
- Replacement parts and cleaning solution are part of what a floor cleaner really costs.
- Buy new from the brand or an authorised Australian reseller so the warranty is valid.
- If it’s a gift, check when the return window starts. Some run from the purchase date, not the day it’s unwrapped.
Yes, Black Friday can be a good time to buy a floor cleaner. Floor cleaners and vacuum mops are some of the most promoted appliances of the sales season, and a real discount on a machine you use every week is worth having. The catch is that a big percentage off doesn’t always mean a big saving.
This checklist works for any type or brand of floor cleaner, from steam mops and vacuum mops to robot cleaners. We make HIZERO hard floor cleaners, so we’ve used them as an example in a few places, but every point applies to whatever you’re comparing.
When Is Black Friday 2026 in Australia?
Black Friday falls on Friday 27 November 2026. Many Australian retailers start earlier in the week and run offers through to Cyber Monday on 30 November. It’s the last big sales window before Christmas, which makes it a practical time to buy a floor cleaner as a gift.
The catch is pricing. After its 2024 Black Friday sweep, the ACCC reported finding “site wide” discounts that weren’t site wide and potentially misleading “was/now” pricing. Shoppers also told the regulator that prices sometimes rise just before a major sale. Going in with a checklist is the simplest way to know whether a deal is real.
Black Friday vs Other Australian Sales
Black Friday isn’t the only time floor cleaners go on sale. Here’s how the main sales windows compare for this kind of purchase.
| Sale | When | Good for | Watch out for |
| Click Frenzy | Usually mid-November (2025 ran 11 to 14 November; 2026 dates not yet announced) | Getting in early, before Black Friday stock sells through | Prices that drop again a week later |
| Black Friday and Cyber Monday | 27 to 30 November 2026 | Christmas gifts with time to spare for delivery | Inflated “was” prices and countdown clocks |
| Boxing Day | From 26 December | Buying for yourself after Christmas | Too late for gifts, and stock on popular models may be limited |
| EOFY | June | Business buyers planning end-of-year purchases | A long wait if your current cleaning routine isn’t working now |
If you need it before Christmas, Black Friday is usually the better window. If you don’t, there’s no harm in comparing again on Boxing Day.
1. Check the “Was” Price Is Real
A “was” price should be a price the product actually sold for over a reasonable period before the sale. That’s the standard the ACCC sets for price comparisons. A discount measured against a price nobody paid isn’t a saving.
- Note the price now. Screenshot the current price in early November so you can compare it on the day. The ACCC gives shoppers the same advice.
- Compare across sellers. Check the brand’s own site and two or three authorised resellers. A real Black Friday price holds up against all of them.
- Check what the saving is measured against. “Off RRP” isn’t the same as “off the usual price” if the product rarely sells at RRP.
- Be wary of “up to” claims. “Up to 50% off” often applies to a handful of products, not the model you want.
- Ignore the countdown clock. Timers that reset or get extended are designed to rush you. A genuine deal will still be genuine tomorrow.
- Check who the price is for. Some prices are for members or app users only. Make sure the price you see is the one you’ll pay.
2. Work Out the Real Cost of Ownership
The cheapest machine on the day isn’t always the cheapest over a few years. Most floor cleaners have parts that wear out or run out, such as pads, rollers, brushes, filters and cleaning solution, and cordless models will eventually need a new battery.
Before you buy, find out what needs replacing, how often, and whether the parts are easy to get in Australia. It’s also worth checking whether the brand requires its own cleaning solution, as using something else can affect the warranty on some machines.
Do the sum. Add up roughly a year of replacement parts and solution for each machine you’re comparing. A cheaper machine with pricier parts can end up costing more. If you can’t find this information easily, ask the seller before you buy.
3. Make Sure It Suits Your Floors
A discount is wasted on the wrong machine. Not every floor cleaner suits every floor, so check what the product is designed for and what your flooring manufacturer recommends.
Timber, laminate and hybrid floors need the most care, as too much heat or moisture can damage them. If your home has carpet or rugs as well as hard floors, check whether the floor cleaner handles both, or whether you’ll need a separate cleaner for each.
Our HIZERO vs Tineco vs Bissell comparison explains how different types of machine compare, and our guides to cleaning natural timber, engineered timber, hybrid flooring, laminate and floor tiles explain what’s safe for each.
4. Buy From the Brand or an Authorised Australian Reseller
Marketplace listings and overseas sellers can look cheaper, but the saving can disappear if something goes wrong. Many brands only honour their warranty on products bought new in Australia, and parts or service can be harder to get.
- Check the seller is authorised. Most brands list their authorised Australian resellers on their own website.
- Check who the warranty covers. Some warranties apply only to the original purchaser and to products delivered in Australia.
- Be careful with second-hand. A second-hand machine may not be covered or serviceable, so check with the brand before you buy.
For example, HIZERO’s 2-year warranty covers the original purchaser of Australian-delivered appliances only, and our authorised resellers are listed on our Current Promotions page.
Whatever the warranty says, your rights under the Australian Consumer Law still apply. If a product has a major fault, you’re entitled to a repair, replacement or refund under the consumer guarantees.
5. Compare New, Refurbished and Trade-In Options
The Black Friday price isn’t the only way to save, so compare all three before you decide.
- New at the sale price. The simplest option, with the full warranty and everything in the box.
- Refurbished. Good value if the machine has been properly reconditioned, comes with new consumables and carries a full warranty. Buying refurbished from the brand or its official store makes any warranty claim simpler.
- Trade-in. Some brands take money off a new machine when you trade in an old one, and a few accept other brands too.
Trade-in offers usually apply to the full price, not a sale price, and most can’t be combined with other discounts. HIZERO’s Trade & Save program works this way. Compare the trade-in price with the Black Friday price and choose whichever is lower.
Spreading the cost? Many retailers offer buy now, pay later services such as Afterpay and Zip. Check the repayment dates fit your budget across Christmas before you commit.
6. Check Delivery Times Before Christmas
If the floor cleaner is a gift, the delivery date matters as much as the price. Check how long the retailer takes to dispatch, not just how long the courier takes, as some need several business days to process orders. Accessories may ship separately, and remote areas can attract a surcharge.
Check Australia Post’s Christmas delivery dates for your area before you order. If you’d rather see a machine in person or take one home the same day, check whether the brand or a nearby retailer has stock in store.
7. Read the Returns Policy, Not Just the Price
Returns policies vary a lot between retailers, and a sale is a bad time to find that out. Before you buy, check:
- When the window starts. Some policies run from the purchase date, others from delivery.
- How you request a return. Many brands need written contact and a return authority number before you send anything back.
- Change-of-mind costs. Look for restocking fees, who pays return freight and any cleaning requirements for used machines.
- How faults are handled. A faulty product is treated differently from a change of mind, and the Australian Consumer Law applies either way.
As an example, our Shipping & Returns policy asks you to get in touch within 14 days of purchase and charges a restocking fee on change-of-mind returns.
Buying as a gift? Do the maths. If a policy runs 14 days from purchase, a floor cleaner bought on Black Friday (27 November) has a return window that closes on 11 December, well before Christmas. Check with the recipient early if you’re unsure, and keep the receipt, because warranties are usually tied to the original purchase.

Frequently Asked Questions
When is Black Friday 2026 in Australia?
Black Friday is Friday 27 November 2026, and Cyber Monday is Monday 30 November. Many retailers start earlier in the week and run offers across the weekend.
Is Black Friday a good time to buy a floor cleaner?
It can be, if the discount is measured against a genuine recent price and the machine suits your floors. If you need it before Christmas, Black Friday is usually a better window than Boxing Day.
How can I tell if a Black Friday discount is real?
Note the price a few weeks before the sale and compare it on the day. Check the same model across two or three authorised sellers, and be wary of savings measured only against RRP.
Is a refurbished floor cleaner worth buying?
It can be good value if it’s been properly reconditioned, comes with new consumables and carries a full warranty. Buying from the brand or its official store makes warranty claims simpler.
Does buying from a marketplace affect my warranty?
It can. Some brands only cover products bought new from authorised Australian sellers. Check the brand’s list of resellers before you buy.
Which type of floor cleaner suits my floors?
It depends on your floor. Timber, laminate and hybrid floors need the most care, as too much heat or moisture can damage them. Check your flooring manufacturer’s care guide and the machine’s guidance before you buy, and keep in mind that most hard floor cleaners aren’t designed for carpet or rugs.
Once you’ve run through the checklist, you’ll know a genuine deal when you see one. If you’re still comparing types of machine, our HIZERO vs Tineco vs Bissell comparison sets out where each one fits, and our Hard Floor Handbook has care guides for every common floor type.
